Detox diets and cleanses are incredibly trendy these days, and there are seemingly endless programs to choose from. As a Holistic Nutritionist, I always recommend a foods-based cleanse, to begin with, as subjecting our body to an extreme liquid or fasting detox can actually do more harm than good, for most people.
Today we are going to present a very special drink with a lot of healing effects. This drink fights obesity and diabetes, reduces blood pressure and improves digestion.
What is a detox?
Let’s start with the basics, as there is quite a bit of confusion around the topic of detoxing. A detox diet aims to help the body rid itself of toxins. Of course, the human body has many natural detox pathways via the liver, urine, sweat, and feces. While it is a complex process, the liver neutralizes toxic substances and then releases them from the body. A diet specifically for further detox claims to help the bodies vital organs rest and recover, support and increase liver function, and give you a “boost” of important micronutrients.
Detox diets come in many forms, although most involve some sort of fast (water, juice or broth), and are followed by a period of clean eating. Some include smoothies, supplements, herbs, teas, enemas, and other methods of promoting detoxification.
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- tablespoon honey
- 1 cup water
In the morning, before breakfast, mix all ingredients in a blender, and then consume the drink right away. The result will be simply incredible!
Cinnamon is beneficial in regulating blood sugar levels; it is also one of the most effective anti-oxidants.
Probably everyone already knows the beneficial effects of honey. It helps treat wounds, skin and lung diseases, fights cardiovascular and gynecological problems and so on. A teaspoon of honey consumed in the morning can alleviate a sore throat and calms the nervous system. Honey is also rich in enzymes that improve digestion and help with weight loss.
Apple cider vinegar
It contains various useful substances, beneficial bacteria, and acetic acid, which reduces the heart rate by up to 6%.
Lemon juice is rich in vitamin C, and it also has the alkalizing effect, thus normalizing the pH level in the body.
